It’s a New Beginning for Cataract Patients

Johnson & Johnson Vision with the support of the Saint James Hospital Eye Clinic have just launched the TECNIS® Symfony intraocular lens here in Malta, the first and only extended range of vision lens for people with cataracts.  TECNIS® Symfony lens, is distributed locally by Vivian Corporation. These lens implants are currently being performed at the Saint James Hospital Eye Clinic, in B’Kara, where all their highly experienced eye surgeons have undergone extensive training by J&J Vison representatives from Germany.

Patients with cataracts can now benefit from a full range of vision thanks to the TECNIS® Symfony lens.  This is a new option for patients to improve their vision following cataract surgery, especially those who have difficulty focusing on objects at near distances. Many patients live very active lifstyles and want to see clearly at all distances, without glasses if possible. With the TECNIS® Symfony lens, patients will have the freedom to enjoy the activities that matter to them. This implantable lens will provide high-quality vision from near to far in all lighting conditions. The TECNIS® Symfony portfolio also includes a TECNIS® Symfony Toric lens that helps correct astigmatism. Both lenses offer high spectacle independence at far, intermediate and near distances.

Cataracts involves clouding of the natural lens of the eye which is normally clear. It is a condition that effects many aging adults. Many first symptoms include a strong glare from lights at night, blurred and foggy vision, reduced night vision, and reduced vision even with glasses. During cataract surgery, the natural lens is removed, and an artificial lens, called an intraocular lens, or IOL, is inserted into the eye. The IOL most commonly used in cataract surgery is a monofocal lens, which only allows the person to see at a distance, with closer objects being out of focus. In contrast, the TECNIS® Symfony lens is specifically designed with features to improve both the range and quality of vision.

J&J Vision is focused on improving people’s vision and their lives by helping them stay healthy and active.
